La nostalgie, telle que la décrit Sam Steward, incarne une tristesse dépourvue d’objet spécifique – une nostalgie d’un passé qui semble aussi irréel que l’avenir est inaccessible. Elle porte clairement une qualité utopique, tendant vers un « passé futur », qui n’existe qu’idéologiquement.
